Maybe you could:
- Display the website that is the referrer
- Use ip -> geo database to do quick matches with no signup
-- i.e. just say: "4 news.ycombinator.com readers visited today"
I am creating an account now, but maybe my suggestions could give you a more compelling frontpage.
It's already doing that for some selected sites. It should've said Hacker News for you.
