In general, I'm of the opinion the current day style of teaching (someone supposed "expert" stands there and tells you stuff) is inefficient and a terrible way to teach anything. The best way to learn any concept, and I mean ANY concept is to see it in an application or tangible example. Without fail, that is how people will learn and retain information. That's why the only way to become proficient at math is to practice problems. The same concept applies in other fields. Receiving and relaying information are actually two quite separate skills. That's why the best way to know if you know a subject is to attempt to teach it yourself.
